The Predator by RuNyx
#1 in the Dark Verse series
Pages: 318
Genre: Dark Contemporary Romance
Format: Paperback/Kindle
Link to Amazon: The Predator
Favorite Line: “Don’t you know not to run away from predators, sweetheart? We like the hunt.”
The Predator is the first book I read by RuNyx and simultaneously the one that sparked my need to read everything that the author has ever written. Tristan Caine is chefs kiss – perfectly moody, and one of the most-feared men in the mafia. Morana was a strong, genius and dangerous heroine. The Predator follows Morana as she tries to track down codes that were stolen from her by her ex, first stop being going to enemy territory to threaten Tristan. The two figure out that he is a piece in the puzzle and therefore has a vested interest in the codes and the two work (unwillingly) together to find them. This is an enemies to…bigger enemies? To FWB, to lovers? All of the above? Tristan has a secret that prevents an easy understanding of the situation. But will the secret tear them apart or bring them closer together? This is one book that I have recommended to anyone who doesn’t mind some spice, with a little mafia, and some tension, character building, and mystery. This is the first in the Dark Verse series, and by far one of my favorites by the author.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Pages: 496
Genre: Science Fiction
Format: Paperback
Link to Amazon: Project Hail Mary
Favorite Line: “Human beings have a remarkable ability to accept the abnormal and make it normal.”
From the same author who brought us The Martian, which was adapted into possibly one of my favorite movies (and books) of all time. I went into this book blind. I didn’t read any reviews, read the book blurb, nothing; and still, it has become yet another favorite of mine. Andy Weir has the remarkable ability to integrate science and math, add a touch of humor, and the end result is a thrilling masterpiece.
This particular novel follows Ryland Grace, a scientist and teacher that is sent into space to find a cure for a threat that is killing Earth. Initially he wakes up from a coma, with no memories of the past, where he is, or what is expected of him. The book goes from present time to flashes of the past, in seamless and engaging transitions. Each one brings you closer to the character and an understanding of the story. Once in space, Ryland finds himself in the most unlikely of friendships and together they search for the answers they both seek. It’s thought provoking, humorous, tear-jerking and inspiring. Andy Weir has created yet another masterpiece in this book. But if movies are more your thing, this one has also been picked up for filming and is set to release in 2026.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
#1 in the Empyrean series
Pages: 528
Genre: Romantic Fantasy
Format: Hardcover/Paperback
Link to Amazon: Fourth Wing
Favorite Line: “Fascinating. You look all frail and breakable, but you’re really a violent little thing, aren’t you?”
Let me just start by saying that I’m typically not much of a fantasy reader. I try, but the book really has to pull me in for me to want to stick with it for the hundreds of pages, since I rarely see a short fantasy book. But what Rebecca Yarros has done, the intricacies of her characters and plots, I devoured this book in under a day.
And I cannot wait until the series is finished (though I’m not wanting it to end), because I need to know what happens next and how it all wraps up.
The story follows Violet, who trained her entire life to join the scribe quadrant of a college, but her mother forced her to join the riders quadrant. Where, you guessed it, there are dragons! Sure, they’ll turn you crispy if you so much as annoy them, but…dragons! So, Violet, being part of the riders quadrant, has to constantly fight for her life. From challenges, classmates, and the man wants her dead before all others, Xaden. There are twists, turns, magic, and a few tidbits that you’ll realize later on had a deeper meaning. This book will also leave you wanting to have your own grumpy dragon (I’m looking at you Tairn). Violet’s strength, instincts, intelligence, she’s absolutely inspiring. This is one fantasy, that though it’s detailed, is also riveting and keeps your attention throughout. If you’ve read the book and want to share your thoughts, or have any other book suggestions for me, leave a comment or send an email!

Currently Reading:
Grimstone, by Sophie LarkWe all have these, a stack of books just sitting there. Waiting patiently for you to pick them up and read their stories. The ones that when you see them in the store, you have to take them home with you. Even if the entire time you’re whispering, “not yet”. You’ll get to them, but “not yet”. Here are a few of my “not yet” books, that one day, I look forward to reading.

The Last Letter, by Rebecca Yarros
While I’ve read Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, also by Rebecca Yarros, I have not yet read anything else she’s written. Though I keep hearing wonderful, heart-wrenching things about her other books, I’m still very much looking forward to reading this one soon.
Phantom, by H.D. Carlton
I first fell in love with H.D. Carlton’s writing by accident. I ordered a few books that I had seen all over TikTok. Does It Hurt, and The Cat & Mouse duet. I actually didn’t realize they were both by the same author until I had finished all of them and had wanted to know which authors I needed to follow so I could read everything else by them. Only to find out it was the same. Now, the moment she puts something out for pre-order (yes, even if it doesn’t have a title or blurb yet), it’s already ordered by me and I’m patiently waiting. Phantom is no exception. It’s only by some mishaps that I haven’t been able to read it yet. But soon, very very soon.
The Boyfriend, By Freida McFadden
I first became aware of Freida McFadden around the time The Housemaid was released. Though I have not read that yet, I have read a few others. Including Never Lie, The Teacher, and the Coworker. I can always sit and enjoy a book where there’s twists and always one that not even I can see coming. Which seems to be the theme in most of her books.
Girl Abroad, by Elle Kennedy
Elle Kennedy is yet another author that I follow closely. Though I am falling a little behind, I have read all but the last two of her books. Sport romance, anyone? Though this one doesn’t seem to be entirely sports related, it is an author that I’ve come to enjoy the stories, the emotion, and the chemistry she puts into her characters.
Murder Road, by Simone St. James
I’m noticing the theme with this set of books that I’ve chosen, is that I love the authors. And that’s true with this selection as well. I first read a book by this author, called The Broken Girls. I loved the writing style, the complex characters, the twists. Ever since, I make it a point to try and read all of this author’s books as well. After all, who can resist a good mystery? -

Stay Toxic by Lani Lynn Vale
#1 in the Semyonov Bratva series
Pages: 243
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Amazon link: Stay Toxic
Memorable Line: “What’s his problem?” “He’s sane, you’re the one that doesn’t react right.”
If you’ve never heard of Lani Lynn Vale, let me introduce you. There’s spice, romance, drama, tears, and so many laughs. The first book I read by her was Center Mass, which is the first book in the Code 11 – KPD SWAT series. And still one of my favorite go to series when I find myself in a slump. Once I realized just how fantastic they were, I backtracked and started reading everything she’s written. Just about all of her books connect. So don’t worry if you find a couple you love and don’t think you’ll be able to move on from. Trust me, there’s a high chance you’ll see them again.
The latest that I’ve finished is Stay Toxic. This book follows Brecken, who, fresh from a break up wants nothing more than to get as far away as possible from her cheating ex-fiancé and former best friend. Shasha may be the scariest man she knows, and may continuously be trying to warn her away, but that doesn’t stop Brecken from being drawn to him and strong-arming her way into his life anyways. Filled with action, chemistry, a few tears, and a lot of laughter, LLV remains one of my go to authors for a compelling read.
